Tame Your Inner Tormenter
One of the greatest foes to happiness is the Inner Tormenter. Do you know him? He won't give you a moments rest, even when you've done something well. It just wasn't good enough, right?
And when you make a mistake, the Inner Tormenter swoops into action like a dark villain. It never tires, works 24 hours a day, 365 days per year and doesn't even want a vacation. Oh no, it loves it's work too much for that.
It's bad enough to suffer from issues such as death, depression, job dissatisfaction, anxiety, parenthood dilemmas etc. Add an Inner Tormenter to the process and it's like adding steroids to muscle building
-- bigger, meaner and moodier.
Be aware that your Inner Tormenter will hide in the shadows when you go looking for him directly. I'm giving you a heads up, because that's just what I'm asking you do in this article. Stop being "the hunted" and become "the hunter."
Each of us have a part of our personality which forms and is called "good judgment." When you use good
judgment your life tends to go well. For many of you, your Inner Tormenter started out as this part, but due
to internal pressure, external pressure or a combination of both, this thing has turned into a very real monster.
Here's what to do. Name your Inner Tormenter. Develop a character sketch of it. Is it masculine or feminine? Catch him in action. Learn how he has influence in your life. Catch
and stop the Inner Tormenter in mid-sentence, while he's berating you. The Inner Tormenter absolutely does not want to be known by you, but knows you perfectly. Sound unfair? It definitely is and it's time to level the playing field. It's time to tame the Inner Tormenter. Good
judgment is acceptable, but all forms of self-abuse coming from the Inner Tormenter is completely unacceptable.
Start today. Be playful with developing the character sketch of your Inner Tormenter. He hates lightness, playfulness, spontaneity etc. Counter his attacks with lightness and inner assertiveness. You can do this. I believe in you.
